Checking in on past resolutions....

Image
I just came across this  list of my resolutions written in January of 2013 , let's see where we are at with all this. First up was to keep up with: Hot Yoga. Running. Eating Healthy. Check. Check. Check. At that point I was 3 lbs from my goal weight, which was 125, I am 120 now. (Yay!) Here are the things I wanted to work on: Being stronger.   I have to say I am way stronger now.  My focus has shifted to more weights and strength training.  I still have a long ways to go to get my problem areas happier but these things take time... Gaining a healthier body image. I think I am doing MUCH better in this area, still have a ways to go, but there has been definite progress.  I am learning to love myself more and forgive myself for my flaws more.  Self love is such an important thing!  Repairing an unhealthy body is one thing, rewiring an unhealthy brain is a whole other.  I am very grateful for this body, it is strong ...

Half Marathon? WHAT!??!

Image
I don't know what's wrong with me.  I swore I would never run a half marathon and now I'm obsessively reading reviews on them.  I have been all over the board on which to do but I think I've finally made my decision.   The top things I was looking for was A) A pretty route  B) Pretty flat, not hilly at all.  C) Either close by or somewhere I would want to vacation. I have many I am interested in but the winner just came to me, it's the Foot Traffic Flat ! It's super close to our house, on Sauvie Island, which is nice & scenic and they even put the word FLAT right in the description!  Who can beat that??! One last reason I knew this was the one for me?  It takes place on Thursday the 4th of July.  Which means that not only is it a fun day anyway, it's the day before my birthday and I can't think of any better way to go into my next year then to celebrate how far I've come in this last one.  : ) I've currently ne...

A (not so typical) Day in the Life...

Image
OK, I thought I might run through what I did today so you could get an idea what a day in my life looks like... So rather then pick one where I sit around eating Bon-Bons all day, I thought I would choose today, where I was feeling pretty productive.  : ) I heard Norah calling for me around 7:40, I  successfully ignored her, John got her up, changed & situated on the couch "watching shows".  8:15 she wandered into our room & informed me it was time to get up.  : ) I snuggling her & procrastinating going running which I told myself I was going to do,  like it or not (I was NOT feeling it today). I made the kids breakfast & headed out. I left around 10am, ran 3 miles at a 10:15 pace while  listening to THIS which I highly recommend you  check out, it's a good one.  : ) I got home, fed the kids a little more, ate some  breakfast then took a shower with Norah, we are insepara...

Week One.

Image
So it's officially been a week since I started "Running". I'm not able to take that word out of quotes yet but I do believe that YET is the operative word. You can catch up on my first thoughts on running HERE  Since then, I have gone every single day. Here is what I have noticed so far: I still can't run the whole way.  But I'm dying less. I'm eating better; more frequently, smaller, less carbs, less calories, drinking more water. I'm listening to a new (to me) awesome podcast  that I love, it gives me that same great feeling of  reading a wonderful book. ( This American Life ) I've also started doing a routine Billy recommended, 20 squats, 30 lunges, 40 toe touches (all with weights),  50 second wall squat and 100 jumping jacks. It's awful.  But I love it.   I haven't lost a single pound.  And that's OK.   My lungs are getting stronger, I'm getting stronger.  And...
